And at last we were back in the real Caribbean again but this time with a choice of French restaurants and a bakery with fresh sticks, croissants and pains au chocolat. We looked on and found a private villa with our own pool and sensational views on the French side of the island. ![]() After five days of false promises from front desk team and management we concluded that Flamingo Bay just wasn’t special enough to celebrate a milestone wedding anniversary (yes, we told them that upfront and copiously whilst in discussion) and much to the team’s incredulity we grabbed the initiative and bugged out. After all they have time on their side - every day that goes past is closer to the end of your stay and to the pivot point where it becomes too much hassle to pursue an improvement. And best not to quiz the Reception staff about trying to move units or even paid for upgrades as you’ll be palmed off with more excuses than you can imagine, some of which appear to be plucked from the air as the team make it up as they go along. those who pony up cash not points, firmly in front of owners. Corporate policy is clearly to prefer renters I.e. Owners are greeted with a ‘Welcome Home’ vibe which could be considered thin at best. Whilst the resort is standard, cookie-cutter timeshare fare, that’s where all of the support ends. Not so much as ‘Welcome Home’ as ‘why did you come and bother us’?… I would think very carefully before using this resort as an owner on a points swap. No one on reception would meet our eyes when we checked out! In 26 years of using points across all of the US and Europe we have never been told that as owners we were at the bottom of the pile and that no one cared whether we were happy or not. So we left, and spent the money we would have spent on an update to a room where we could see each other and perhaps sit on the balcony occasionally on going somewhere else. And then for the next few days the front desk team said variously that the resort was at full occupancy, it wasn’t as a search of their own web site proved, then that we could have a new room at the weekend, or could pay for an upgrade, both of which we were happy to do, and then finally saying that, as owners we were not allowed to upgrade or request a room change even if we paid. They reacted by allocating us the worse room in the resort for our fortnight. ![]() We had asked the resort in advance if we might have a nice room as we were celebrating our ruby wedding anniversary. ![]() Blinds had to be kept down as path outside meant no privacy in bedroom if not. Inside it was so dark you needed lights on all of the time. It was placed in the furthest darkest corner of the resort, with a balcony that saw no sun at any point in the day. Of the balance many have resort views and plenty of light. This is a well set out resort with well tended founds and buildings and it appears that over 50% of the rooms have a full sea view and more than half of the rest have a partial to some degree or so.
